new york paperie

i just wanted to give all readers a heads up that next month there will be no posts after november 10th as im heading off on holiday to america for a few weeks. i'll be visiting new york, las vegas, and san francisco. i was thrilled to see that my new york hotel is close to kate's paperie - so this will be a must see for me. i know that there are lots of US readers out there and wondered if i could ask a favour ? can anyone who lives in any of these cities give me an idea of the temperatures i can expect there during november ?. im guessing a big coat for new york ? but how about nevada or california ?. when i visited new york previously it was the coldest ive ever been in my life (that was thanksgiving week of 1993 !). any info or local knowledge will be greatly appreciated, especially in knowing what to pack in my case !

all images from kate's paperie, except american vintage mug from american square.

    Hi Bowie,
I love your site, I visit it every day!
While you are in NY you might like Mokuba Ribbons - 55 West 39th St, and I am sure you know about Anthropologie too its lovely.
Vegas in November will probably be dry and (English temp) ave high of 16 c and a low of 5 c ish
San Francisco could be a bit rainy ave temp 14 and a low of 6 c ish.
Have a fabulous time, I look forward to seeing your purchases.

For NY, I would suggest layers. November is one of those tricky months where you have chilly days and then rather warm days. Bring a quilted jacket and long sleeve shirts and sweaters (and a comfy scarf). That way you're on the safe side whether it's warm-ish or chilly. You can always put some more layers on or take some off.

You should also check out the weather and "extended outlooks" right before you leave. Here's a site for NY:

Hope that helps! Have fun on your travels.

Have fun on your trip! Definitely layers would be best. A heavier jacket over a sweater should do for NY in November. As far as Vegas, it should be lovely and warm during the day, maybe cooler at night. A lighter jacket should be fine. Most of my time in Vegas I was inside the Casinos anyway! It will probably be rainy in SF, so be prepared. I think it isn't too cold in November in Northern California, so you should be fine with a lighter jacket. I love your blog. Thanks for all of the inspiration!

  4. That sounds like an amazing trip. I'm not sure about NY, but in San Fran it will probably be a bit rainy and also very windy. Be prepared with a more substantial jacket for the wind in SF. Vegas is in the desert so it will be hotter than you expect during the day. I love your site and all the patterns.

  6. It looks like people have already given you some good Vegas advice. The native Las Vegan's think it's cold in Nov, but it's really a fantastic time to visit here.

My advice for Las Vegas is to see something beyond the strip. The desert can be pretty beautiful and there are some incredible red rock canyons nearby.

    Red Rock- 30 min
    Hoover Dam- 45 min
    Mount Charleston- 1 hour
    Zions National Park- 2 hours
    Grand Canyon- 4 hours

There's even a ski resort on Mt. Charleston that opens after Thanksgiving (Nov. 23)

I second the layering comments about NYC--one day it could be warm, and the next cold and windy, so layers are key! Also, even if it IS cold, everything in NYC is completely overheated, so once inside you'll need to strip down anyway.

Kate's is a nice store and has some beautiful papers, but some more interesting places you might want to check out include:
-Kinokuniya: a very cool japanese bookstore near Rockefeller center (great stationery and papers)
    -Takashimaya

Have a great trip! And thanks for your great blog--it's totally inspiring!

    Amy

Hi there, I haven't had a chance yet to mention how much I enjoy your blog - it's just wonderful. I live in New York and I have to say that by late November I am usually wearing my full-on down-filled winter coat. It's true the weather is changeable still in November, but if you tend to be cold (as I am), you may want a big coat, warm hat, and scarf so that you can enjoy walking around rather than sufferring through it. I'm a big fan of Kate's as well - I've been to each of their stores and I believe the SoHo one is the largest.

    Enjoy your trip!

Like someone else said, San Francisco is very windy year round, and although we always have a late summer, the fall and the winter quickly follow.

The day time is usually warm, but it's deceiving, because as soon as the sun goes down, make sure you have something warm!

Have a wonderful time in San Francisco!

  12. Bowie,

We welcome you with open arms when you visit our side of the pond. I was just in Vegas and visited the tiny, but delicious, "Paper Doll" in the Holsum Lofts complex. The cab driver said it was "near the outlets", maybe you'll be near the shop - a few galleries in the same area as well. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for posting some of my designs from SooHoo-on-paper.com. I love your blog and I go to your website everyday to see what's new.
A friend from SF suggested a store that is a must to visit. The store is called "egg". Go to this url for more info:
    http://goto.cream.org/egg
Also... as you might know already, for paper lovers, "Paper Source" is a great store to visit as well. There are two locations in SF: www.paper-source.com
Have fun on your trip! I can't wait to see what you'll post from your trip.
