charing cross road is the main destination for books in london, and earlham street previously mentioned is just 2 minutes round the corner so you really can do a host of stores in one short visit. my favourite is at 72 charing cross rd where you'll find shipley's design bookshop. (not to be confused with their rare art books shop further down the street at no. 70). another good shop previously owned by shipley & zwemmer is koenig books at number 80. also worth a visit is foyles a vast independent bookstore. there are also borders, waterstones, etc. but if possible its best to try and support the specialist shops as they are under threat.
above inside shipley at 72 charing cross road, below newly taken over koenig books at 80.a real bargain in the window at koenig, one of my recommended books, reviewed later in the week, is reduced from £40 to £16.80.
Aargh! I want the Lesley Jackson book! It's available at Amazon but... sniff... they won't deliver to Africa.
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to wait for your review and drool.
I bought the Robin and Lucienne Day book by Jackson (on your recommendation maybe? - can't remember) and am so impressed with her writing, research, everything.
