Mini moderns have released two prints from their new Hinterland collection with more to follow thorough out the year. One of these is Peggy (above & below) inspired by the use of painted pegboard to display all manner of products in the junk shops and hardware stores of south Kent. Keith & Mark of Mini Moderns love the look of pegboard finding it suits lots of different moods – it can be crisp and geometric or warm and rustic. The design is made up of broken circles printed on block colour to give it the look of heavily painted pegboard, layered with many years’ worth of paint. They believe whilst it is a very simple pattern, the pegboard aesthetic is beautiful in its own right. Although they also actively encourage it to be covered with things people love. Peggy costs £50 a roll and is available in 5 colourways: Concrete, Mustard, Lido, British Lichen, and Snow.
The Hinterland collection by Mini Moderns is inspired by the history and culture of the Cinque Ports towns of Kent and Sussex. The first launch print in the 2014 collection is 'Dungeness' (below) where designers Keith & Mark have spent the last year renovating an old railway carriage. The wallpaper features a mass of shingle, punctuated by illustrated vignettes of quaint cabins, abandoned fishing boats and ramshackle huts. Anchoring the print are the two lighthouses that flank the Mini Moderns beach house. For decades, Dungeness has been a source of inspiration for artists, from Eric Ravilious to Derek Jarman, and has featured as a distinctive location for films, music videos and television dramas. Dungeness is available in 4 colourways: Washed Denim, Chalkhill Blue, Concrete and Coach Emerald.
I really love both of these new designs and am very tempted to use the boats one at home! X
