Now is your chance to be part of the book with an official 'Call For Entries'. I would love to hear from P&P readers who would like their flora and fauna designs to be included. You may wish to create new work or perhaps you will have something suitable in your portfolio already. Remember all copyright stays with you so if you do decide to create any special works for the book you can still offer them in your portfolio to clients.
These are the kinds of themes I will be looking for :
Plants, Leaves, Grasses, Trees, Seeds, Flowers, Cacti, Succulents, Tropicana, Feathers, Pebbles, Minerals, Crystals, Gems, Fossils, Insects, Butterflies, Mushrooms, Nuts, Acorns, Fruit, Berries, Clouds, Rainbows, Snowflakes, Water, Wood, Seaweed, Fish, Sea life, Shells, etc. and although these are the main focus of the book I will also be hoping to include birds and animals.
If you would like your work to considered for inclusion all you need to do is send a selection of low res jpegs (no less than two - no more than ten) to bowiestyle@hotmail.co.uk and mark your email Nature Book. The Deadline for entries is September 1st 2015 but I am working on the book already so feel free to send in as soon as you are ready. Take a look at some of the other P&P books on Pinterest here to see the kind of things we like to publish, plus I have made some moodboards below to show the style of book I hope to create. I am looking for patterns, placement prints, illustrations, cards, wallpaper, fabrics etc.
I would like to submit some leaf print designs and as you've also mentioned snowflakes and trees - I was wondering if this also included designs used for Christmas cards?
ReplyDeleteHello Anon,Thank you for asking. I am not sure if a design is too Christmassy it would with the nature theme but feel free to submit it just in case. Snowflakes patterns used for xmas wrap and cards could still work along with pine or fir trees, as long as they still suggest the idea of Nature. Hope this makes sense : )
ReplyDeleteI am such a fan of Print and Pattern and have every single book which I treasure. So excited to have the chance to submit. Hopefully one of my big dreams will come true. xxx Thank you for such a great opportunity. I can only predict that your inbox is going to be extremely busy.
ReplyDeleteSuch an exciting opportunity! I am going to try and submit some designs. I am new to the surface pattern design game, but I have taken some classes by Rachael Taylor, and I know she has been in some of your other books! Never hurts to try right!? Love your website as well!
ReplyDeleteShould we send our work with our name on it or you would prefer without any copyright marks? Thank you in advance.
ReplyDeleteIs there a minimum size for the artwork we submit? 550px for example?
ReplyDeleteHello Marie! Do you prefer to have single images for each jpg, or are pattern collections ok? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI adore these books and they are always filled with amazing beautiful design work!! Can't wait to get the newest one!! πππ±π±π±ππ
ReplyDeleteHello Bowie Style,
ReplyDeleteCould we submit designs that are placed in homeware as well? ( as mock ups )
Thank you
Okay, thank you - that makes things a little clearer for me.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeletecopyright marks are fine for the submissions stage - but we would need to ask for clean artworks free of text if selected for the actual book.
550 pixels is fine for the submissions stage as it will keep emails small but is still clear enough to see - but if the design makes it into the book we will ask for AI vector files or 300 dpi jpegs.
Eleny - Nature designs on homeware and products will be fine for submissions as it all adds to the variety of what we surface designers do.
Hi Kelly,
ReplyDeletePattern collections are ok to send as one image at this stage : )
Hi Marie, this book sounds wonderful - thank you for giving us the opportunity to submit.
ReplyDeleteI see you've listed fruit and berries in your themes, would you be including vegetables in this list as well or are you thinking more along the lines of "nature found in the wild"?
Thank you
Hi Pippa, Thankyou for your question, I wanted to avoid any fruit or veg designs that look too much like kitchen designs as I think 'food and drink' could be a separate subject for a P&P book. So keeping it very natural or wild is what I am looking for at the moment : )
ReplyDeleteThank you for your prompt reply, bowie style.
ReplyDeleteHello Marie! I wanted to ask you if we can send our desings even if we are from outside UK? I'm from Argentina and I'll be glad to send you some work.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Paola
Hi Paola, Yes I would love to get submissions from all over the world. Any designer from any country can enter their designs : )
ReplyDeleteHi Marie. It is ok to submit work even if you've been previously featured in one of your books? My new artwork style is quite different but wasn't sure if you are only interested in new designers. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, No it doesn't matter if you have been featured in a P&P book before - you can still submit for the new book as it is a brand new theme : )
ReplyDeleteI would love to submit some work but I was wondering if PS prints are ok as well? I get the feeling from all the previous books that the designs are all done in Illustrator. If not I will create some new work on Ai. :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Bel, Photoshop designs are definitely acceptable - there have been plenty of PSD files in previous books as well as jpeg scans of paintings etc. We accept all types of media for the creation but for actually sending to the printers we need either high res 300dpi jpegs, photoshop files, or vector files (illustrator etc.)
ReplyDeleteBut for first submission we only want low res images to keep emails small.
Hope this helps : )
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if it is possible to submit designs and patterns made from photo processing as well as drawn illustrations.
Thank you!
Cristina
Hi Christina, Yes I think so if they are made to form lovely nature patterns.
ReplyDeleteHi. My designs are from hand drawn, mainly watercolour illustrations that I put into Photoshop. I was just wondering if that type of work would be suitable or if it's mainly a digital look you're going for?
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
ReplyDeleteWatercolour patterns are bang on trend at the moment so there will hopefully be plenty in the book. Please feel free to submit your watercolour illustrations : )
Hi, im currently working on designs that involve all woodland characters in their natural settings. This would involve grass, poppys, fences, acorns. The animals i have range from deers, rabbits, stouts, field mice, foxes etc. Would these be any good for your book. i have the separate watercolour illustrations and the final compositions too.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am trying to submit my designs, but my e-mail keeps coming back with a failure message saying that my message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. ... My images are not big 500px and 72dpi and I am submitting just two. I am not sure what to do?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Sofia
Hi, I wasn't sure the best place to contact you about this, but I've tried sending my submissions a few times to your email (there are 7 images, 600 px x 600 px 72 dpi), but I keep getting an error message saying your inbox is full. I even tried sending links from google drive with no attachments, but the error still says the same thing. Do you have another email to send submissions to? I'm excited about this book and would really love to submit. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello, I just tried to send you my submissions but I get an replay telling me that it failled :-( Is it possible that your mailbox is full ?
ReplyDeleteHello Marie, I tried to send you an email with my designs but I received a Delivery Status email back. I tried several times but still the same problem. My images are low res,and I sent it to me too and it worked so maybe your inbox is too full? is it too late to send imags?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Dana
Hi - I'm trying to submit but the email keeps bouncing back. Please help a girl :) thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI have the selection of patterns ready to submit but was wondering what size to send them in.... Would 7inx7in at 150DPI work ok for you at this stage?
Thanks so much!!
Is there a time on September 1st Marie, e.g. 5pm or midnight GMT?
ReplyDeleteHuge Apologies to everyone who had trouble sending files last week.
ReplyDeleteWhilst I was away on hols lots of people made submissions and there were quite a few who ignored the need for lows res and clogged up the mail box with huge 30mb files! This led to an overload and lots of message from outlook that I had exceded my limit.
As soon as I returned on Friday night I started deleting the larger emails to make some room.
Fingers crossed anyone who hasn't yet got through will have no trouble now - but if you do have any worries about file size or want to be certain then use the free service at wetransfer.com or dropbox etc.
Also regarding the deadline I would say it is midnight on 1st Sept UK time - but for those overseas I wont be pedantic, if a good design comes in overnight it will still be considered : )
The reason for Sept 1st is just hat you have to have a cut off point somewhere in order to finalise the selection process.
Thanks everyone for being so patient !
Hello Bowie Style,
ReplyDeleteIs September 1st inclusive as deadline, or is it today the last day?
Is it 10 samples by e-mail or does each designer get to send maximum 10 designs?
Thank you!
ps sorry, just saw your clarification about the deadline date on your comment above.
ReplyDeleteHi Eleny, You can email up to 10 low res designs, but if you have less it is ok. If you have more on your website then i will look at those too if you attach a link.
ReplyDeleteJust clarify again the deadline is midnight (GMT) on Sept 1st so you have all day tomorrow : )
Thank you, Bowie Style.
ReplyDeleteHi Bowie Style, I have decided to submit some of my work. I have seen in a prevuous comment you also accept images from website. If I attached a link will you consider some of those. Hoping to send some individual ones too if I can manage to do it before midninght
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
