Today we are showcasing the work of Kate Mason - the winner of this years Global Talent Search, a top design competition organised by the Lilla Rogers Studio. As the Grand Prize winner Kate won two years’ international representation from Lilla Rogers, plus a host of prestigious product licenses. Kate is based in Adelaide, Australia, where she lives with her husband and five children. She works from her home studio while the kids are at school, takes a few hours break and is then back at work once kids are in bed. Kate says she was "Completely gobsmacked about winning the GTS". Although she has been doing art all her life, Kate has only recently in the past three years started focusing on illustration & pattern. So feeling quite new to the commercial world of illustration, Kate feels so lucky that Lilla noticed something in her work that was worth giving a chance. Kate now has some great projects to work on and will be showing at Printsource with Lilla Rogers in New York today. She recently finished a colouring book, as well as wall art, lampshades & greeting cards. Right now Kate is working on product packaging.
Kate is really inspired by artists Oliver Jeffers, Eric Carle, Joanna Gaines, and design retailers Laura Ashley, Liberty and Cath Kidston. She loves French and Japanese design and "Scandinavian everything". Her work is influenced by folk art & traditional culture, and she loves bold colour, texture, collage, ephemera, maps, and home decorating. You can see more Kate at her own website here and at Lilla Rogers.
