DESIGNER - camille walala
For the last couple of days we have been looking at contemporary graphics with a 1980's feel from designers who are influenced by Memphis style. This Italian design movement has been influencing all kinds of artists and one of those is Camille Walala. Camille has created her own signature style with nuances of Memphis, tribal design, and op art. Camille graduated with a degree in Textile Design from Brighton University in 2009 and now works from a studio in East London. Last month Camille launched a homewares collection including cushions, wall mounted shelves and ceramics at London Design Week with Aria.

MEMPHIS - inspiration
Here are a few more contemporary designs that capture the bold graphics and pastels of the 1980's but with a brand new modern feel. First up we have wallpaper from Milton & King from their Ingrid + Mika collection. The Sentiments design above and below is great for statements whilst the simple grid design could have a myriad of uses as a backdrop for display.
Charlotte love is a stylist who has captured a pop graphics look perfectly with this lovely mix of black and white print and bright colour which she styled for the June 2014 issue of Heart Home magazine. With photography by Joanna Henderson.
Below : More styling from Charlotte Love with photograph by Natalie Dinham.
And finally we finish with more grids, triangles and pastel colour on this cushion from depeapa. depeapa is the label of Veronica de Arriba a designer based in Granada, Spain. The cushions are available on Etsy here.

DESIGNER - rocio olmo
This weeks Print & Pattern is going to be looking at Memphis inspired designs. This 1980's style trend is inspired by the design Memphis Group which although it may sound American was in fact an art collaborative founded in Italy. The designers took their name from a Bob Dylan song and formed in 1980 after Ettore Sottass organised a meeting with various designers. Inspired by Art Deco, Pop Art and Kitsch the group were producing designs until 1988. Now many contemporary designers are giving this style a modern twist with their take on eighties graphics, patterns and motifs. One of those is Rocio Olmo a designer based in Madrid Spain. Rocio has over 10 years industry experience and designs interiors, logos, packaging, textiles, and more.
