My next book discovery with standout illustrations was 'You Matter' by Christian Robinson. Christian is an illustrator based in California who you may know from his collabs with Cotton + Steel and Red Cap cards as well as his prize winning book illustrations. "For anyone who isn't sure if they matter. You do." is the dedication in the front of this book and the theme is whatever difficulties a child made encounter whether they are big or small everyone is precious. Christian creates his fabulous illustrations using acrylic paint and collage and he likes readers to see his brushstrokes and the shadows on his paper cut-outs. He studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts and would later work with the Sesame Workshop and Pixar Animation Studios before becoming an illustrator of books for children.
